What is the home school community liason scheme?


The home school community liason scheme is a very positive programme in operation in
beaufort college since 1999. It fosters a sense of trust between students,parents and the school with the aim of maximising the participating of students and parents in the learning process as a whole.


 

Why do we need the home school community liason scheme?


Post-Primary is an exciting,challenging,rewarding but sometimes difficult
experience,not only for students,but also for parents.School life is not solely about what a student
achieves between 9am and 4pm.There are many other factors which contribute towards the experience of
school life.
 
The home school community liason scheme tries to ensure this experience is as
enjoyable and trouble free as possible. It recognises the ROLE of parents and the home environment and seeks to
promote a partnership between the school and parents.

 

Who looks after the home school community liason scheme in beaufort college?


The scheme co-ordinatoris Ms Maria Flynn. Maria is available to discuss on a personal
level matters of concern with parents.
If preferred she can make visits to the home. The scheme is also supported by input
from the principal, vice principal, year heads, guidance counsellor, resource teachers
and class teachers-all of whom are actively willing to the parents needs of the parents.

 

How does the home school community liason scheme work?


> The scheme recognises parents as the primary educators of their children and is constantly
  looking at ways to support parents in this important role.
> Home visits are an excellent way of ''checking in'' with parents and listening to their views and
  concerns.
> Many parents participate in a wide range of courses, which are run during the school day.

These are free of charge and cover many subjects including First aid,computers,art,parenting,stress management and cookery and are held mostly
in the PARENTS ROOM in the college. Such courses not only help parents learn new skills but also recognise the importance of parents having time to themselves.
It also gives them the opportunity to share in the life and work of the school along side their children.

 

Where does the home school community liason scheme take place?


The scheme is not confined within the school walls. As mentions the scheme co-ordinator makes home visits. In addition the scheme builds bridges between the school and the many groups, organizations and agencies within the wider community, which impinge on the lives of our students,particuraly Navan School Completion Project, other links include: NYPD project, springboard project. Meath Youth Federation, The North Eastern Health Board, Co Meath VEC adult and community education sevices.

 

Parents Room


Parents have a room in the beaufort college,designated specifially for their use.It can be a place where people have privacy within the school to discuss concerns that they may have arisen for them.Toys,books ad colouring books are on hand to occupy pre-schoolers who may be with a parent visiting the college. Various groups of parents use the room as a meeting place and classes for parents are held there.The parents room is suituated at the end of the college. Books are available on loan,from the parents room regarding adolescence,dyslexia,addiction,parenting,etc.
